At around the 2 hrs I let the laptop sleep briefly. Like very briefly. I wake it up to find the wifi gone, but no domino effect. Very strange. I reboot to find the wifi still gone, and the log filled with false boot strings (i.e. -- Boot [insert random characters here] --
sprinkled randomly through the logs). mt7921e
was of course found to be the root evil. I reboot again. No wifi. My airplane mode light is on and I can't turn it off. lsmod
reveals that the mt7921e
module isn't loaded, so I sudo modprobe mt7921e
then systemctl restart NetworkManager
. Wifi does not return. I reboot. Still nothing. lsmod
shows it didn't load again, so I modprobe
and restart Network Manager again. Nothing happens. Reboot. Wifi is back?? Yeah this is very weird behavior. I'm on the linux
kernel again btw. I'm sure nothing can be done, so this is just an update on the current situation.
If you find your wifi is undetected after a reboot, try shutting down then hold the power button for a full minute.
There are many reports of what you have experienced online about this wifi adapter. It's fixed then it breaks again. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I am aware of that. I suppose I have no choice but to find a USB wifi adapter like you said. I guess I could save up since it would make my laptop significantly more reliable, but having a big antenna take up one USB port when I only have three kinda sucks.
There are mini models that take up very little space. Of course the smaller you go, the more limited your range will be.
