Hi guys!

First of all, I would like to say that I am really enjoying Garuda linux Dragonized edition. I'm using it as one of the OS in my work machine. Everything has been working pretty smoothly until the recent wireplumber/pipewire changes. After applying the patches, for the past couple of days, at least 2 times each day, while I am working, all of a sudden my monitors (I have dual monitor setup) and my keyboard and mouse just lose connection to my PC. Following is what I have observed:

  • This happens randomly, and there's no specific activity that I am doing when this happens. I have multiple IDEs and browser windows opened, but it has been like this since I have started using Garuda for my work.
  • Reconnecting the peripherals, powering the monitors off and then back on, doesn't help either. Weird thing is that my PC is running normally.
  • There are no changes to the Qcodes on the mobo as well. It's just that I can't use either my monitors or my keyboard and mouse.
  • The only thing that I can do to resume normal work is to hard reset my PC. I am afraid that I will end up harming some components with these frequent hard resets, plus I also lose my work.
  • Here's the output for today's journalctl for the system. PrivateBin. I have provided it because I experienced this issue in the morning today as well

Any help with regards to troubleshooting this issue, any guidance as to how I should start investigating this would be really appreciated. I am actually relying a lot on my Garuda installation and re-installing a different flavour of Garuda would be the very last resort that I would want to opt for. This is my first post so if any more information is required please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Why is this urgent?

Thanks for the reply. I am using my Garuda OS as my daily driver for work. This abrupt loss of signal from peripherals leads to loss of work. The urgency is just for any guidance in how to troubleshoot it. I completely understand that everyone here would already be quite busy in looking at other issues, but I would be grateful if someone points me to the right direction

This can’t be related to the wireplumber changes - if it was audio-related, sure.

What else were you doing or changing around the same time?

Have you updated again since then?

Have you tried a different kernel, e.g. linux-lts?

I agree this doesn't seem to be related to the wireplumber changes.

  • After getting the hotfix for those changes on my machine I observed that I could no longer get any audio from my headset and can't use the mic as well.
  • I used timeshift to go back to a good backup before the hotfix and started getting this issue of loss of connectivity.
  • I again applied the hotfix and now audio on my PC appears to be working fine, but this issue remains

I have not used any other kernel yet. Should that be the next course of action?

Do you have a puppy? :dog:

Chewed/faulty USB cables will produce the exact symptoms you’re experiencing.

I have 2 young dogs, so I’ve had to do a fair bit of cable replacements.

Yes.

Unfortunately I don't have a pup yet. I have to mention one more thing though. I recently upgraded my RAM from 32gigs to 64gigs and now I am thinking that there might be some memory clock issue or frequency issue. I am using an ASUS board so when I got new pair of RAM sticks I enabled ASUS's DCOP feature, which automatically boosted the RAM's frequency to 3200 from 2133. With 32gigs this wasn't an issue, but I think with 64gigs maybe the clocks aren't in sync now? Anyways tl;dr I have disabled DCOP in BIOS and I will keep monitoring my system. Thanks everyone for your prompt replies. Cheers
