KDE Activities breaks top menu in apps

Garuda places application menus in the top KDE panel instead of placing them in the application window itself. So Firefox for example has File, Edit, View, History etc all up the top panel. Nice functionality, good for workflow. (Note this bug applies to all applications I have tried, not just Firefox.)

As per screenshot here:

To reproduce the bug: use Right Menu and select Activity Switcher, create a new Activity in addition to 'Default'. Run any application in the new Activity (close it or keep it open, no difference), then switch back to the 'Default' Activity. The top KDE panel menu options for Firefox (and all other apps I have tried with this, including Dolphin, LibreOffice, Kate etc) is now not visible. See screenshot:

This behavior resets on reboot and the app menu appears once more in the top panel.

Garuda installed via GARUDA-DR46ONIZED_SOARING_

Any quick fixes to be had?

TIA.

That's latte-dock panel with the window appmenu widget. If you want to see the App's default panel menus then,

Right click on the top menu bar, select edit dock, and set it to always visible from the Behavior section. It's set to windows go below by default

And also this looks like a bug in the window appmenu widget, which isn't maintained by Garuda Devs, you should report it to the github page:

oh and by the way KDE comes with their own Global menu widget, maybe you can try and use that if the bug isn't in there

I checked, and the default setting on mine was ‘always visible’.

Placing the Global Menu widget beside the Window Appmenu widget has produced the desired behavior. Transferring between Activities no longer breaks the menu function. Not sure why both need to be there, but it now works the way I want. Thank you muchly. :+1:

You don’t need to keep both, go into latte editing mode again and select configure and rearrange widgets and delete window appmenu, let only global menu be there

Tried this. When I delete the window appmenu widget, leaving only the global menu widget, I get no menu at all. But when I have both widgets operating, I get menu functionality. It doesn’t really make sense, but I now have the behavior I want, so I’m happy. :woman_shrugging:

Thanks again.

You will probably have problems in the future, if you have two widgets with the same functionality.
Latte and accompanied widgets provide any functionality you want.
You just need to configure properly.
Check in widgets properties, where you can set menu always visible and others.

Fixed! I needed to make sure the global menu widget (and only the global menu widget) was present and identical in both Activities.

Edited to add: I’ve also discovered that I have to run an app in both Activities spaces before the global menu widget activates.
