Hello! I do not post this as “issues” but only as I’d wish the Garuda Devs would “look” a bit on this “matter”
I have a device for gaming called Tobii Eye Tracke 5 Pro. Garuda, and all others Linux OS I’ve tried so far would detect my device at:
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 2104:0313 Tobii Technology AB EyeChip
I’ve searched all the Internet and I have not found a way to “start” or “awake” this device but only an old deb package which in fact is a “manager” not a “driver” and some “workarounds” also old and only applicable to Tobii v4.
This is a wonderful device useful mostly in simulator (fly, drive) games (but also for lot others, rpg, strategy, etc.) which takes the physical eye view and head movement of the user and apply it to the camera view in-game, so the user now have absolute free-hand view around while gaming and it’s not anymore forced to “look” with the mouse or other controller. I’ve used this Tobii 5 for 1 year in Windows and I miss it so much now on Linux that I even can play to much without it! Looking again with a mouse is awful especially when you have a driving stand far from a table. I also would be enormous grateful to anybody who can advice me (if that is even possible) how to use it on Garuda! Love&Peace!

There is a suitable package in the AUR, install it with:
paru -S tobii_eye_tracker_manager
No idea if it contains a driver or works, you have to test it yourself.
Btw: this is not a Garuda Linux problem, complain to Tobii if they don’t offer drivers or software for linux.
Hi! Thanks for answer! I didn’t complained and I also didn’t affirmed this is a Garuda Linux problem! I also described that the “suitable AUR package” is a simply manager that will manage the device only if the device would somehow be able “start”. If you read careful my “topic” maybe you’ll understand better!
Don’t worry, I read your post carefully.
It is not our job to check the AUR package with the same name for differences to the .deb package mentioned. Therefore:
And neither the Garuda Linux maintainers nor the Arch Linux maintainers will look into this matter. If hardware manufacturers do not publish drivers for linux, then it is voluntary open source developers who reverse engineer the hardware in question and then try to develop suitable linux drivers - or disassemble windows drivers and then port them to linux (and both are even illegal in some countries).
As long as Tobii does not publish a linux driver for ET5, you only have two options: Either you make a feature request to the open source ET4 project on github or you develop an ET5 driver for linux yourself.
I would very much like to be able to make the driver myself! That means I would never use Tobii 5 in Linux
Thanks anyway for letting me know all of the “info”. I guess, I will wait (and hope) until some smart guy would “invent” something new for this device, because the manufacturers are so “into Windows” that they would never make a Linux driver
Hey! Thanks for Garuda anyway! Awesome OS indeed! best wishes!
