Issues with last upgrade (to kernel 6.0.2-zen1-1-zen)

Hello Guys, I've got into a undefined problem. It already starts with the issue I can't even say where it might come from except it appears on my last upgrade (which changes the kernel to the version 6.0.2). :sleepy:
I've no YouTube playback - mostly I can see one frame or just the thumbnail of the video.
I've got no audio, whether on any video file with different video players (like VLC, MPV refuses to play videos all together, I literally need to click frame per frame to see something). :face_with_spiral_eyes:

The upgrade ran without any error, which doesn't help me either. And due to research in the net I found umpties different reasons which I can't even remotely relate to. B/c my rig ran before the upgrade without any issues. (Stuff like: HW issues, codec issues, drivers issues).
The AMD driver doesn't change et all, and it worked before the upgrade as well, and very well.

Trying another upgrade after the initial upgrade leaves me with "nothing to do". And I don't have any messages about "Partially upgraded system"-warnings or anything. According to my Garuda everything runs fine. No issues with the compositor, no issues with the animations, none. Except, starting a youtube video or any other video file. Even all my games are rendering properly but there is no audio either. Even early access unstable stuff, runs fine, just without any audio.
I've checked if anything is muted, for the case of, although it doesn't make sense either since I've got decoding issues due to issues with the audio. I'm using my on board audio card, so the audio isn't related to my GPU anyways.

I suspect it has something to do with the kernel upgrade but. I couldn't find anything related to that, but a ton of other issues I don't have, as it is usual with major upgrades.

There is my garuda-inxi of course:

All the sound server are running, nothing is muted, hence I suspect a decoding issue, or even a driver issue of some sort. Maybe based on the new kernel? Mp3's ain't doing nothing in any player either.

I hope there is a solution except from rolling back
Thanks in advance,

Bruce :shark:

Hi SGS, thanks for the reply

Just tried the passthrough but I never used it anyways. The passthrough doesn’t make any difference.

Remove it

James is gone, just rebooted, problem still exists in the exact same way. :sleepy:

Try other kernel or use the last working snapshot.

I use that one since September :face_with_spiral_eyes: - I hoped to get some ideas from you guys how to resolve this issue. B/c I can merely install something I need b/c of the partial upgrade warning. And I won’t bork my system completely :frowning:

Another kernel than the super high performance magic ZEN? :exploding_head:

bore, amd …

Zen work fine on my Desktop PC, but I change on all amd cpu’s to bore.
Only the intel use zen now.

Is there a reason for your choice?

Those kernels are more optimized for Zen2 and above CPUs. Zen2 may use znvers2 kernel but it’s still an AMD-optimized, or tried to.

Electricity has become expensive in Germany, and the driver:
amd_pstate_epp seems a good choice.

Ohhh, that sounds intresting.

Definately is, man. In your case, try the linux-amd or linux-bore. Don’t install linux-amd-znver2.

I'm going to take bore and check my issues

Thanks for the advice!

@BruceLakeriver one last thing, it's possible after installing the AMD kernel it won't switch automatically to the EPP PSTATE scaling driver.

To check that, check the SCALING DRIVER in your garuda-inxi. It should match SGS's. If not, plz open another thread I should be able to help on that one, I had to go through yesterday.

Ha crap. :frowning:

Can’t help much on the audio, but once you get to the scaling driver you don’t have EPP (that’s another topic though):

But this would not solve this problem.

I just added the marked part amd_pstate.epp=1 to the Kernel parameters.

I still don't get the audio issue ...

The scaling driver will have no effect on the audio.
The kernel in general could have had, which is why SGS suggested trying another kernel. The EPP is another topic.

Meaning your audio issue is most probably not kernel-related.
