Don't think that's the problem tbh, I've used Garuda KDE for a few months before and it's worked perfectly fine.

Only if no iGPU is in use.
The installation process need more RAM, IIRC, for KDE, maybe we must write 8 GB.

Indeed, nohang did automatically terminate programs sometimes. A few tweaks had that fixed, though. Garuda works surprisingly well on my laptop, better than any other distro I've used. Maybe it's the prebuilt optimization?
Not that I saw, you suggested chrooting and installing grub.
Except that calamares is configurable so the general flow doesnāt have much impact on a specific distribution. In garudaās case, looking at the config, it looks like there is an additional module called postcfg which happens after bootloader installation.
While you probably could get a system like that working, I donāt think it is the first option to recommend.
