the problem is that I can only create folders using sudo, although I was able to do that using Dolphin Explorer before!
I don’t remember that I made any changes and all permissions are the defaults
the Create New and Delete buttons are disabled in the dolphin in / directory and mounted devices

Because of security issues, Dolphin (and most Plasma apps) don’t support root access as they once did.

sudo mkdir and sudo chmod ride to the rescue :slightly_smiling_face:

Install kio-admin and you can perform several root actions.

You need to take ownership of the drive (chown) to access it as a user (not root).

The thing that I was able to write on any device and write in / directory using Dolphin, that was just 2 days ago, and if I needed to write Dolphin prompted me for the password for the root
another thing that when I was mounting my hard drive in /run/media/[myusername]/[hard Drive]
I was able to read and write without even the root action, this was the default Garuda settings
Some people said that it is because of the dual boot with Windows, and the fast boot option, I disable the fast boot in Windows and still can’t edit write, or read.
I tried another solution which is giving the permissions to the host I used
sudo chmod 777 / and still can do any write or editing actions!

I did chmod on the hard drive but it did not work
I have even tried sudo chmod 777 / and it did not work

now I made a big mistake by running sudo chmod -R 777 /

Depends on what was on the drive and what the file system is.

If it was a Windows NTFS drive only used for storage no big deal.

On your / root operating system partition that’s likely totally messed, recover any data you need and start fresh again.

This command may help:

 sudo chmod -R u+rwX,go+rX,go-w /

But lots of permissions will still be incorrect.

the good think is that windows hard drive was unmounted , but my problem now is with garuda in the / root
so now I need to reinstall the system right ?
if yes then can I get a clone of the apps and configuration files

Sudo is borked, but you likely can still run commands as root using su.

but I face a new problem whenever I mount the hard drive this is what I get:

what I have done is this

sudo pacman -S ntfs-3g

but still the same error , I tried to mount using commands with sudo but I got this

sudo mount /dev/sdc
mount: /dev/sdc: can’t find in /etc/fstab.

the hard drive working fine with windows and it was working fine before reinstalling the system !

Can you share the output of

lsblk -f

and

sudo dmesg

after the error happens when you try to mount the drive.
