I’ve been having this issue since maybe a couple of months (can’t remember exactly since when and couldn’t point out a specific system upgrade) in which my laptop starts with headphones (connected to 3.5mm jack) and the integrated laptop mic not working, however they both start working after muting them and unmuting them from the volume control widget at the top panel.
A couple of weeks ago i disabled jamesDSP running on startup since a long time ago the jamesDSP sink gave me problems, this didn’t help however.
Today i decided i’ve had enough and have been troubleshooting, since in my usual setup i have the laptop already plugged to an external monitor via hdmi and to the headphones i decided to test booting with them connected and disconnected to see if the cause has to do with that, in all cases the headphones and mic need muting/unmuting to work however then integrated speakers work right off the bat.
I followed this pipewire gitlab issue and my experiences where pretty much identical to the OP Ghost User, so much so that doing what he said and using alsactl store
fixed it.
So problem solved, so why am i posting then? well first of all so that if anyone else experiences this they can find it here on the garuda forums but also there’s a new small issue the leaves me wondering if this solution was the best or not.
previously i experienced a bit of kde plasma weirdness since whenever i muted my mic an icon would pop up saying the mic was on and then when i unmuted it the pop up said it was now muted even though i could confirm on the audio panel and voice calls that it was the exact opposite, well ever since the fix i no longer get the pop ups, when changing audio setting from the widget i get pop ups for device changes and volume level changes but no longer get pop ups for muting/unmuting devices, however i can still get the audio muted pop up when muting speakers/headphones with the keyboard action key.
