There has been many bios updates since the date of yours. Most of them are labeled "Improve system stability" . I would suggest updating to the latest bios version https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/H97M-E/HelpDesk_BIOS/
Also, some hardware plays better with the linux-lts kernel. Some hardware setups have issues running other kernels. Hard lockups that even using REISUB won't let you reboot safetly out of.
