Garuda-update errors with malformed URL Input to function

Then why am I still getting error after error running it? This is a fresh install to boot. Something seems to be broken still to me.

I’ve moved your issue report to a new post because it’s unrelated to the post you are replying to.

Please post your garuda-inxi output and we’ll go from there.

Please also post the file content of /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist

Thank you, they felt very related because I was experiencing the same problem as the user in that post but had been working on correcting it myself and had already did a split of the nvidia resources.

Let me know if I didn’t post the necessary information from the inxi. I am new to Garuda.

Please also post the file content of /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist as well as the output of the command pacman -Syy --debug.

Inxi looks good, thank you

The chaotic-mirrorlist was empty when I checked it initially. I’ve been attempting to correct it manually following some guidance found on the web and digging into dependable mirrors, but I’m not confident it’s correct. Here’s the current state of the file:

File: /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist
## Chaotic-AUR Mirrorlist
Server = https://cdn-mirror.chaotic.cx/chaotic-aur/$repo/$arch

Let me get that output into a pastebin for you. It seems like Netcat isn’t installed by default.

https://termbin.com/r4ty

Something seems a little off with your chaotic mirrorlist file.

Could you please do me a favor and send the file content of /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist? This is really important and this is the third time I’ve asked for it for a reason!

It was empty, I edited it trying to find a stable mirror so I could get apps installed. Here is the termbin for the command:

╭─thewitchybish@Mal in ~ took 0s
✦ ╰─λ cat /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist | nc termbin.com 9999

Termbin Chaotic-Mirrorlist

Not sure how else to get you the contents.

I don’t know how exactly this file manifested on your system but this is definitely not right.

You can restore the file to a correct state by running:

sudo wget https://aur.chaotic.cx/mirrorlist.txt -O /etc/pacman.d/chaotic-mirrorlist
garuda-update

This is a brand new install done yesterday morning here in Central Time Zone US. The whole intiital udpate was riddled with errors. Even the command you just gave me is tossing errors. I am guessing that something was broken upline. I am guessing whatever it was involved the nvidia problem too because I also had that issue. Since this is pretty much a clean install, maybe I should download the ISO all over again and do another clean install? Here is the output of what you just handed me.

You need to run the wget command as root. You don’t have sufficient permissions to write to a system file without root permissions.

Try again after you’ve run the wget command (the first one in the list) as root.

Good catch! Thank you! Sorry going screen blind have been at this desk for like 9 hours dealing with this failed install. This will be my fourth install across 4 different machines in the last 8 weeks and the only failed. It’s updating now will post output.

All good. I edited my original message to add the sudo, you didn’t miss it.

System updated! 🐧

Update notices:
The GRUB bootloader at /EFI/Garuda has been updated/reinstalled using 'grub-install'. If this looks correct, no further action has to be taken.

That looks good! You’re good to go.

Thank you so much. Yeah I know it wasn’t in the command above but I know better lol. I am new to Garuda but not *nix. I was banging my head on this one. I have fallen in love with the Distro and hope to be running it for a long time!

Glad this has been solved, I still wonder some things though

What does “pretty much” entail? Are you certain you didn’t do anything that could be related before it was empty? I’m very curious what led up to this.

This failed when using that same media which succeeded so much elsewhere!? If so, you might want to confirm health of the drive you installed to. Passive corruption without a reasonable cause (like bad source files for the installer) is often a sign of impending hardware failure

You say the install was “riddled with errors”, but what and where were they exactly, or were you just referencing the solved mirrorlist problem?

What confuses me most is that the file is not just empty, but straight up wrong. The server URL just straight up isn’t correct.
