I am trying to play Star Trek Online and it says that the card is not compatable
this is what the game says it needs

That is an Intel® HD Graphics 2000 chip, so that is falls below the system requirements.

This is an old card and looks like its forced to just use the nouveau driver, so you aren’t really going to be able to game with it as it won’t be able to interact with the compatibility layers like the proprietary driver would.

Sadly, with this hardware setup, it looks like you won’t be able to run it with Garuda.

Hmm…

The 390.xx driver supports the following set of GPUs.
… GT 640

I’m a link linking to Arco Linux

Is that driver not supported in Garuda?

Searching a little, seems like you need this package:

nvidia-390xx-dkms

Install it with

sudo pacman -S nvidia-390xx-dkms

And enable it depending on your DM as stated here: NVIDIA - ArchWiki

I suppose this article also applies since you’re using two GPUs (Intel integrated and nvidia): Switching between integrated and dedicated graphics | Garuda Linux wiki

Just remember with the legacy drivers that things might be a bit hit or miss. For instance, Proton Experimental requires a very recent driver and that won’t work with it. Other versions might be effected as well, as I haven’t followed closely with what the legacy drivers provide. Other Proton version information is here Releases · ValveSoftware/Proton · GitHub

Be sure to check with https://www.protondb.com/app/9900 for reports depending on proton versions. As with most online games, recent reports will be more accurate on what proton versions would work best.

Edit: being a legacy dkms module, it might be also be best to try pairing it with the LTS kernel if things don’t work out.

it is in the hardware options to enable it via the GUI (Garuda Settings Manager → Hardware Configuration). Its more of a question if the compatibility layers that are required play well with it or not. A lot of new (or ongoing online) games still play best with Proton Experimental. Experimental requires pretty new drivers, last time they bumped the requirements was in May if I recall correctly. Needing NVIDIA 510.47 / Mesa 22.0 or newer Proton Experimental bumps minimum driver version, more playable on Linux and Steam Deck | GamingOnLinux
