Drop down menu adding spaces over time

Over last 5 months or so the menu on the top right hand side has been adding a space about once a month and the menu just keeps getting longer. Does anyone know what may be causing this? the menu is the one with lock screen and log out in it.

Also about once every month or two it will randomly log out on its own while in use. did it today.
