This is not a request for assistance, just a small anecdote I noticed that I found a touch weird and wanted to share.
Basically, I use Garuda to play games, and as I try to optimize space I often uninstall and re-install my games through Steam, Epic and rarely EA launchers.
And I noticed that, while beforehand on Windows my download speed was usually between 3 and 5 MB/s, now on Garuda I have downloads that reach speeds of 100MB/s. One time on Steam it actually got to almost 200MB/s.
As I’m dual booting, I went back to Windows to check if it was just my internet that got faster as a whole, but no, Windows still download 3-5MB/s.
So… no idea why, but Garuda (and potentially other Linux OSs) apparently drastically speeds up donwload speed.
Did this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know why it happens?
That sounds like there might be a bigger issue with the windows install. I’m not sure what but I know my widows ssd downloads things fine. As i play bdo once a week.
Maybe there is all kinds of system functions in the background in windows sending/receiving data without the user knowing about it. I bet if you ran a packet sniffer on your system you may see other online services running in the background hogging bandwidth, that would be my best guest. However, in Garuda, you have vastly more control over services that go out on the internet, and by default are off unless you install it or activate it.
Are you sure it are MB/s and not megabits? For the increase seems enormous! If it is you are a lucky man indeed!
My internet, which i share through my son’s router, next door, is about 5-6 MB/s faster, at 17-18 MB/s, than his on windows, and much more often i download at such speeds, than him. It has to do with the server load more than Garuda i think. There are simply far more Window users than Linux users, so we tend to get more band width downloading. Or that is what i concluded about this.
