Distrobox not working correctly

Trying to run a distro, I get Error response from daemon: path /sys is mounted on /sys but it is not a shared or slave mount

To Reproduce

  • sudo pacman -S distrobox
  • (Maybe have docker and docker desktop installed)
  • distrobox create -i ubuntu:23.04 --name ubuntu.
  • distrobox enter ubuntu- This returned error
Error response from daemon: Mounts denied: The path /tmp is not shared from the host and is not known to Docker. You can configure shared paths from Docker -> Preferences... -> Resources -> File Sharing. See https://docs.docker.com/ for more info. Error: failed to start containers: ubuntu
  • Add /tmp to file sharing resources via docker desktop
  • running it again, error:Error response from daemon: path /sys is mounted on /sys but it is not a shared or slave mount Error: failed to start containers: ubuntu

after that I tried adding /sys via docker desktop and doing sudo mount --make-shared /sys (based on this gh issue ) but neither helped

Expected behavior
it enters

This means that a reboot is pending after the latest update.
Please do so, you never can say…

Did, no change  wish it was that easy

This seems to be a problem from distrobox’s side. Downgrade to 1.6.0.1-1 and add it to ignore package’s for now.

sudo downgrade distrobox

I think this helped in combination of installing podman. I installed my app now successfully but I cannot get a gui app to run. Trying to run it gives me:

./studioone
### Warning: Failed to connect to Wayland display.

I think I am using x11(Garuda dragonized)

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

So why is it trying to run wayland? (I think they’re different display services)

I am not aware of studioone but maybe it has a dependency on wayland? In that case,

sudo pacman -S plasma-wayland-session

then while re-booting up from the sddm screen just below the password field you will notice a drop down menu. Click on that and select wayland and try launching your program.

If you have issues with it you can just as easily choose x11 from the same menu back again.

Guess that’s a good enough reason to switch away from x11. Thanks for your help, it finally runs
