Actually Discover works just fine, it just doesn’t currently load to the systray. As for Octopi having a decent GUI that’s a matter of interpretation. Personally I install Bauh-staging so if I want to see all updates available in an orderly list I can. As for doing updates I run upd (alias for garuda-update) then Topgrade then Discover to see if there are any theme components that need updating that the other two didn’t pickup.
