I tried to update my system on 14.01.2023, and after rebooting, the flash screen and login screens worked okay, but on the desktop only the sticky note widget and application icons would load and would blink in and out every few seconds leaving a black screen. I managed to restore by using the pre-update snapshot, but I tried updating again today and the issue reoccured. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Test if Latte Dock is breaking by disabling or removing it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried it, but it isn't solving the problem.

This shouldn't be the root cause of an issue like the one you described, but, you know, maybe a new KDE release after updating is requiring more RAM.
Do you have any way to check the RAM utilization after the update and reoccurrence of the issue?

Unfortunately I don't. The desktop is completely unresponsive after the reboot, but I did manage to check it immediately after running the update and it reported that the RAM utilization was at 50%
