Dude, if you haven't updated in 6 months you would probably find it much simpler to reinstall. That is never my normal recommendation, but in your case it just makes more sense. A system that old will likely require many manual interventions on your part.

If you can't handle updating your system on a regular basis, then perhaps a static distro such as Ubuntu, or Mint would be more appropriate. Rolling distros should be updated at least weekly or bi-weekly. You cannot expect to go 6 months without updating without creating major headaches for yourself. This is also extremely insecure as your security updates are not current and this leaves you susceptible to all manner of new nasty vulnerabilities.
