I am some new to Linux have used other distros but gaming performance was poor. So my question when I set cool bits why do they have no effect on GPU? So the command I am using: sudo nvidia xconfig --cool-bits=28. That should unlock all setting in the NVIDIA applet. Also I have no knowledge of how to edit a config file if that's the answer.
Solved: I was finally able to edit the nvidia xconf file using thunar. I added Options "Cool Bits" "28" and saved file. Performed a reboot and now GPU fans work along with all options in the NVIDIA applet.
