Chameleon Garuda

Hey there,
I have noticed a weird thing with garuda, where it's getting detected as ubuntu.
Now this is nothing new, I know, but the weird thing is, that next to grub now also snapper and even garuda chroot (kinda red flag) are detecting it as ubuntu - what is going on?
I can't remember to have changed anything regarding this.
How could this happen?
Thanks!

“Hallo zusammen,
Vielen Dank!”

Wo hast du das entdeckt und wie?

(I am gonna keep this english to hopefully not scare away any other discussion participants xD)

So I noticed snapper telling me about creating snapshots for Ubuntu:

( 8/10) Performing snapper post snapshots for the following configurations...
==> root: 102
( 9/10) Generate GRUB config to let grub-btrfs detect new snapshots
Generating grub configuration file ...
Found theme: /usr/share/grub/themes/garuda-dr460nized/theme.txt
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-linux-zen
...
Found Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS on /dev/sda2

while

sda 8:0 0 931.5G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 14M 0 part
├─sda2 8:2 0 195.3G 0 part /run/timeshift/backup
│ /var/lib/docker/btrfs
│ /var/tmp
│ /var/log
│ /var/cache
│ /srv
│ /root
│ /
└─sda3 8:3 0 736.2G 0 part /home

Also when I had to fix something via chroot recently, the Garuda-chroot option only showed Garuda (The live media for some reason) and Ubuntu (My actual garuda system) (also this)
Also grub sometimes shows garuda as Ubuntu for some reason (at least that's what I think remember from some other forums post)

Currently, Garuda uses timeshift, if snapper doesn't get along with it there are problems.
Seems to be similar to Garuda recognising all other OS in the grub but M$ or Debian not Garuda.

Since you don't seem to be using the default configuration, I personally can't help.

Maybe some @garuda-team members can help.

I am still using Timeshift (as of now) and snapper is 100% compatible with grub-btrfs.
Please understand, that one can't forever stick to the default configuration. I personally found timeshift to be pretty bad, as you can't create btrfs backups of multiple drives/partitions and I'd been using a pretty bad rsync script for my home partition (That occasionally decided to freeze my system) until I discovered snapper.
I really had no other choice than to use this.
Together with aur/snapper-gui it is way better to use than timeshift where the backups are stored in some weird directory.
Please don't just instantly turn away like this when someone tries to do a bit of customisation.
I do understand that you are doing this in your free time and even for free - Which I am very grateful about - and any customisations of the default system could lead to a pretty exhausting support session - I myself really like most of the Garuda default config, but on the other hand I just don't like programs like Kscreenlocker-Greet as it tends to break pretty often, forcing me to log in via tty.
Ly seemed to be a perfect replacement for this.

(I also just kinda mixed up both of my issues, but it should still apply for ly, too)

Anyways, snapper is just another program that detects Garuda as ubuntu.

EDIT foobar:

sudo os-prober
/dev/sda2:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS:Ubuntu:linux:btrfs:UUID=2a555427-5d35-463f-8011-b023a855b928:subvol=timeshift-btrfs/snapshots/2021-09-05_17-58-12/@/var/lib/docker/btrfs/subvolumes/117bc91c4c3376835bbb9070b04e01296247fa58d6dd11199422efa3c137fa32

It's not snapper's fault.

I didn't criticize you, I just said that I have no idea about it.
If I'm not mistaken, there is a change going on that you might like.

Unfortunately, I have to rely on translation aids, so, above, your text in German, shows that one often has to guess what is meant.
So here too, your way is good but the translation ruins it.

Oh sorry.
