Can't Boot Snapshot From Grub

Having some odd issues since kernel 6.6.9 for starters the cant boot from snaps from grub i slightly reported before. But, in kde have been having some random long hangs. You can move windows around and sort of type if its terminal other windows you can scroll but the moment you go to hit return to run a command or click a application from the dock it will hang during this the seconds in my clock freeze an while you can still move windows you have to wait 4-9 minutes then you have about 5 seconds to do something before it hangs again.

I thought it was due to the kernel so I rolled back to 6.6.8 zen an it was fine for about a day then this evening it happened again restarts dont fix the issue an powering down takes about 10+ minutes.

So I’m trying to go back to any other snapshot to see if it works but all fail with the error below. I also took some imaged from the journal output. I’m sorry its a bit messy.

The system hangs seem to have fixed themselves after leaving the system on all night without letting it go to lock screen, or shut off the display. I quickly shut off baloo file indexer, which I think is the problem.

I however, still cannot boot a snapshot from the grub menu.

It might be helpful to review the journal entry that is mentioned here, plus if we could get a look at that log there may be clues in it.

It’s tricky to get logs from the TTY or the rescue shell, but if you can mount a disk and copy the logs to it then you can grab them from a “normal” booted system. Please, no more pictures of the terminal.


It’s a really odd issue, since your system boots fine except for the snapshots. It may be a long shot, but perhaps reinstalling the bootloader is in order.

sudo grub-install

Then regenerate the configuration file:

sudo update-grub

Finally, reinstall something to generate pre- and post-transaction snapshots.

sudo pacman -S linux-zen

Try booting the new “pre linux-zen” snapshot from Grub.
