I was interested in trying this out, so I did!
I reverted back to an earlier snapshot where the automatic driver install from the menu would break my kernel images. I checked again if the problem persists by clicking on the button in the menu, getting the same errors and restarting only to get stuck on the initial problem again. Then I reverted back to the same snapshot again and tried the sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 command in the terminal. The command worked and now I am even more puzzled as to why this is happening
