Black screen on login 251002 iso live sessions

Hi!

I used Garuda hyprland without issue the last two years on my pc with Nvidia GPU.

I had upgraded my disk to a new SSD, so I decided to do a clean installation. But I’m stuck after the login page of the live ISO installer. When booting with non-free driver, there is a blank screen with a terminal cursor blinking after login. And a black screen after login with the free driver mode.

When trying to start hyprland with hyprstart or Hyperland I got the same output. How can I troubleshoot further?

I’m using garuda-hyprland-linux-zen-251002.iso with balena etcher

Thanks for your help

Try ventoy with the grub 2 option

I’ve just saw now that my boot option was set to Legacy and UEFI. When booting a Windows USB, the installer was complaining about be started in Legacy mode. I’ve changed boot option to be on UEFI only.

When I’ve finished my windows install, I will try garuda with balena to see if it was the bios choosing legacy mode by default. Else, I will try with ventoy with grub 2.

Sadly, forcing UEFI and using balena or using Ventoy with grub 2 didn’t change anything. Same error than above.

We recently had two similar topics:

I have now tested garuda-hyprland-linux-zen-251002.iso again - in a VM and bare metal with dd, ventoy, and KDE isoimagewriter on AMD/AMD desktop, AMD laptop and Intel laptop - no issues. I cannot test it with Nvidia because I do not have Nvidia hardware.

Pls bios update.

Use the latest bios (4622 beta version) or version 4604.
Think on the right settings after.
Secure boot - Fast boot off / UEFI not CSM/Legacy Mode / AHCI not raid mode / resize bar enabled and fastboot off inside M$ Win11. (no warmboot from M$ to Garuda Linux)

Since I have the same motherboard, I can confirm that the 4622 beta can be used safely and works here without any problems.

Thanks for responding so quickly!

I’ve updated the bios to 4622 and disable all windows feature (Fast boot, Secure boot and force UEFI, AHCI on all disk, enable resize bar).
Sadly same issue

Any idea to troubleshoot further?

There are any logs that I can check?

What happens when you try to start the session as root?

Boot the live.iso until you reach the login screen, open a tty and log in as root with the password garuda. Then try hyprland --i-am-really-stupid. Does that work?

Are you sure that the iso is correct ?
Check / download again the current iso file.

I’m sure my ISO is correct.
But I suspect you pressed the wrong reply button again. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We will need to see the whole log. That will be where the true root cause of the error will be hidden.

Hi!
I got the exact same behavior with the same ISO (NVIDIA 4080/ ASUS MB) but it works with the previous version garuda-hyprland-linux-zen-250916.iso
@fluffy-kaiju Maybe try to use this version and see what happens
