Hello all,
I've been using Garuda for maybe about 9 months now and never really had any problems I couldn't fix myself, until now.
I'm a total Linux noob but Garuda has so many built-in features that help make using it so easy.
Anyway, my issue is that whenever I leave my PC idle for a few hours and come back apps will not open. It's the weirdest thing. I lose control over my ability to log in/out shut down, etc so I'm forced to use the restart button on my tower. I tried locking the screen to see if maybe I could use the controls from there to log out and got a message that the screen lock was broken and I needed to use a terminal.
I never really had these problems until I recently reinstalled Garuda so that I could encrypt my drive. I encrypted with a swap on a newly formatted drive. Other than that the only changes I've made have been to change out my Ryzen 5 processor for a Ryzen 9.
Usually, when Garuda starts giving me trouble I use the Garuda assistant app to make sure everything is updated, reset configs to default, and/or reinstall all packages. That hasn't worked.

First of all, please update your bios.
Secondly, disable lock screen and sleep on idle settings if you don’t need them.
Third, this is a general bug in KDE. Read all the comments of the given posts

Thank you! I'll get started looking into all of this rn.
edit: I did everything you told me to as well as turn off the screen energy saving. At first, I tried just switching off lock screen and sleep on idle but I still had the same issue. Now, I've updated the BIOS and switched off screen energy saving on AC power in addition to your advice. I will report back with the results.

I couldn't edit my last post so I just wanted to say that the above was indeed the solution to the problem I was experiencing. To recap:
switch off screen lock and sleep on idle in screen locking settings
switch off sleep on idle in power saving in power management settings
