Garuda (2.7.2-1):
  System install date: 2024-09-28
  Last full system update: 2025-03-20
  Is partially upgraded: No
Relevant software: snapper NetworkManager dracut nvidia-dkms
  Windows dual boot: No/Undetected
  Failed units:

did a update using

sudo garuda-update

after rebooting it hangs at this point

Tried different kernels but got the same result.
Had to revert to a snapshot to get the system booted up.

Never update with sudo. I believe it actually says that in Terminal.

Just run garuda-update in term. Perhaps try the Zen 3 kernel if you are still having issues.

Were there any error messages during the update, and if so, which ones?

A start job is running for /dev/disk/by-uuid/… hangs after upgrade

Use last working snapshot.

Use live ISO if snapshot fail, check UUID
/etc/fstab with lsblk -f

Please post the output of the following commands:

cat /etc/fstab

sudo blkid -o list

Please indicate exactly which drive in the error message failed to mount by its UUID. The UUID contained in the screenshot you posted is too blurry for me to read. The UUID needs to be able to be matched with the correct drive in either your garuda-inxi or /etc/fstab. In the future please take the time to type out and post the exact error message as TEXT on the forum. If the onscreen error message is too lengthy to type out as text, then please ensure that the picture you post is far clearer than your screenshot posted on your OP.

Below is an example of an entry from my fstab:

UUID=eaa09d71-1234-4aee-5f3b-d543d9e00107  /run/media/htpc/WD-Red-20TB-1    ext4    rw,noatime,nofail,users,auto    0  2

Make absolutely sure that the entry for your drive that failed to mount in fstab has the nofail option applied to it.

Example (from above) fstab:

rw,noatime,nofail,users,auto

Usually the nofail flag in fstab will prevent the type of error message you received. The nofail flag will usually allow your computer to boot properly, (as long as the drive that failed to mount was not your primary boot drive).

For further information, see:

man fstab

Looks like your fstab is fubarred, though I think I might have seen that with kernel filesystem modules that aren’t working right either.
So where is that info tbg asked for ?

You didn’t run blkid with sudo, or your system is in bad shape with no UUIDs

Ok never mind, it just scrolled way over there..I see them now.

Can you provide output of ‘swapon -s’ and ‘cat /proc/cmdline’?

FYI when it gets to that line in the picture it just hangs there, I stopped the boot after 15 mins and restored to a working snapshot, so I still have a bunch of updates to my system that I’m not going to do

It appears UUID 748fc83f-8edc-436a-a837-2ebf04b7a602 is your primary boot drive. Unfortunately, the nofail flag will be of no use for your boot drive in fstab. I was hoping that UUID 748fc83f-8edc-436a-a837-2ebf04b7a602 was an auxiliary data drive and that the nofail flag would help with your problem.

Sadly, that is not a viable fix in your case.

Thanks…but sorry, I got nothing now too. (I’d had very similar behavior when a swap partition got remade with a new UUID, and I thought it was worth checking).

So no idea, why this happened, but I just did another

garuda-update

everything worked fine this time
